Preparation:
Crush sunflower kernels with back of spoon and set aside. Roll lettuce leaf into a tube & slice thinly into long narrow worm-like strips. Next, chop grape into bite-sized pieces.
Combine grape and lettuce worms, sprinke with vitamins, add crushed sunflower and toss gently.
Top with cricket croutons and serve.
Be sure to remove any leftovers after a couple hours to avoid spoiling.
Variations: substitute your favorite fruit, blueberries are very good, and you can also try mealworms instead of crickets. Crushed peanuts work nicely also.
Serving suggestion: My mom serves it up in an empty single serve jello snack cup, which she poked a hole in near the top of one side, and used a bread twist tie to secure it to the inside of my cage by one of my perches for easy removal & cleaning. You can also use an empty single serve cheese whiz cup, or any other small snack size bird dish.
** for those of you also getting Skipio's, you can add the leftover "powdery" stuff, that way less of it gets wasted, and it mixes quite well with the lettuce. |
